History
In 1995, the current location of the Santa Fe Business Incubator (SFBI) was 3.25 acres of weeds providing no positive economic impact for our community. Fortunately, the City of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, with foresight and vision, recognized the potential of building and supporting a business incubator, and over the next two years, thanks to their leadership, what had been just a concept became a reality. The original 10,000 square foot Incubator facility opened in December 1997 and based on its early success, was expanded to 30,000 square feet in 2002. In January 2006, SFBI became the first New Mexico Certified Business Incubator under New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Business Incubator Certification Program.
The Santa Fe Business Incubator, a 501(c)(3) corporation, is now a leader in economic development in the community and a fountainhead of job creation. Through individualized client services, a professional workplace, and well-structured partnerships with the business community and other economic development organizations, SFBI has emerged as a cornerstone of economic development activity in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico.
SFBI serves an average of 17 firms annually. The 100+ companies who have participated to date have created over 700 jobs, generated millions in annual revenues, helped to diversify the economy, increased the tax base and provided new career opportunities for the citizens of our community.
We appreciate the help and ongoing support of our Economic Development partners and Incubator champions, including SFBI’s Board of Directors and volunteer advisors, elected officials of the City of Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, the State of New Mexico, and the Federal Government; the New Mexico Small Business Development Centers; the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce; Los Alamos and Sandia National Labs; the business community; and many more stakeholders and supporters.
